Active Ecology and Historical GAFiA Tours
Butter Island on Maine's Penobscot Bay
As we move into the next century we are becoming more aware of our need to foster an understanding of Maine, its fragile environment and its many peoples. More and more outside pressures are being applied that are forever changing the landscape and the very fabric of Maine’s diverse culture. Martha and Don are now including as part of their efforts to promote Maine’s natural splendor active ecotourism travel packages. The Department of Natural Resources Planning & Interpretation’s Institute for Ecological Tourism at Humboldt State University defines ecotourism is the purposeful travel to natural areas to understand the culture and natural history of the environment, taking care not to alter the integrity of the ecosystem while producing economic opportunities that make the conservation of natural resources beneficial to local people.
Seals at Holbrook Island Bird Sancturay
New for the 2006 Season we are offering Active Ecology and Historical tours to provide our guests an opportunity to experience Maine as only those who live here year round can offer. These tours are not part of the "tourist route". In fact you can choose to visit areas far from the beaten path rarely visited by anyone but the locals. We stress the word active. Sailing, walking, hiking, biking, kayaking, horseback riding, rock climbing and canoeing can all have a measure of strenuous activity. We can arrange a vacation package at just the right level of activity specifically for you and at a price that fits your budget.
